Film 101:THE ODESSA STEPS

Along with Lev Kuleshov, Russian filmmaker Sergei Eisentein’s experiments with montage also revolutionized cinema. In his 1925 war propaganda film, Battleship Potemkin, Eisenstein assembled this famous sequence that would go on to be included in every FILM 101 syllabus. Observe the baby carriage towards the end of Eisenstein’s sequence and then watch the train station sequence (with the baby carriage) in Brian DiPalma’s 1987 film, The Untouchables.
