Film: Transmedia Part I

Transmedia. I heard the word and its 'defintion' a while back (ask Hezues R') and he asked me to write about it. I was going to write about it, but I really wanted to see where it was going before I could share it with you. Where is it going? This word is sweeping through the Hollywood landscape like a wild fire. There are now transmedia companies, consultants and producers hired to essentially leverage every media and social networking platform available today to market a creation and build a franchise that will entice the consumer interactively; personally connecting them to stories, archetypal characters and universal themes. Star Wars and Harry Potter are perfect examples of transmedia storytelling at its best--still giving birth to fanatics galore--before there was the word 'transmedia'. I'll keep you posted...

Film: Back To School (1986)

Before you get ready to dig into your classes next week take a look back at this classic comedy starring stand-up comedian legend, Rodney Dangerfield. If I remember correctly Rodney plays an extremely wealthy middle-aged father, who tries to re-connect with his estranged son by attending the same university. Back to School also stars Ironman's Robert Downey Jr., Rocky's Burt Young and comedic loudmouth legend, Sam Kinison.

Music: Rihanna VS Beyonce

Rihanna released the new video for her single "Cheers" the same day that Beyonce released the video for her single "1 + 1". Both records are very different. "Cheers", a feel good party record and "1 + 1", a heartfelt ballad (some may think she is speaking of her relationship with Jay-Z in in the lyrics of this tune).
Following Beyonce's pregnancy revelation at the MTV Video Music Awards, all eye's are surely on her right now but take a look at both works and let us know which one you like the best.

Causes: My Fellow American

At Purse & Pulse, we have a strong focus on bringing you lifestyle news, tips and trends that we hope are useful and meaningful to your daily lives. Within the scope of our content (beauty, music, fashion, technology, food and film) we love to feature media that aspires to make a positive difference in the world- which is why we are adding a new dedicated category entitled Causes. We are honored to share our first Pulse on Causes for the film/social media project: My Fellow American (thank you Elizabeth Potter for the submission!)

Here is some information about My Fellow American from their website:

My Fellow American is an online film and social media project that calls upon concerned Americans to pledge and spread a message that Muslims are our fellow Americans. It asks people of other backgrounds to pledge and share a real life story about a Muslim friend, neighbor, or colleague that they admire. Using the power of social media, My Fellow American seeks to change the narrative – from Muslims as the other, to Muslims as our fellow Americans

If you feel compelled to get involved and make a difference- go to http://myfellowamerican.us and TAKE THE PLEDGE!

Here is a great film that hopes to offer a different perspective on Muslims/Islam than what is normally portrayed: Mooz-lum (Evan Ross, Nia Long, Roger Guenveur Smith, Dorian Missick and Danny Glover). The Director (Q) happens to be the brother of a very good friend of mine. Maybe we can get him in the Purse & Pulse studio for an interview- next time he's in NYC! Q, what's up!

Film: Hobo With A Shotgun (2011)

One of my friends posted a trailer to this film on his facebook page--so I had to share it with you. It reminds me of a Robert Rodriguez type B movie loaded with violence, blood and guts...except with an angry, vigilante hobo. Rutger Hauer, of BLADE RUNNER fame, stars.
